Every Australian provider with staff needs a Code of Conduct. But knowing what to put in your Code – and how to draft it – can be difficult:

Registered NDIS providers must comply with the NDIS Code of Conduct Rules.

Unregistered NDIS providers must also comply with the NDIS Code of Conduct Rules when working with NDIS participants.

Registered health professionals who are regulated by AHPRA, like doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, occupational therapists and podiatrists must also comply with their professional Code of Conduct.

In most states, unregistered health professionals like speech pathologists, audiologists, accredited exercise physiologists, dietitians, and genetic counsellors must comply with statutory codes based on the National Code of Conduct for Health Care Workers including like in New South Wales or Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.
To make things more complicated, some health providers must comply with multiple Codes, e.g.:

registered health providers who provide services and supports to NDIS participants (whether registered NDIS providers or unregistered); and
-
unregistered health providers who are registered with the NDIS and provide services and supports to NDIS participants.

Integrating the key elements of the NDIS Code, with the Codes of Conduct for AHPRA-registered health professionals, and the Codes of Conduct for Unregistered Health Practitioners, this Code is suitable for any NDIS provider and health professional, including health providers who are also NDIS providers.
We have designed the 24-page template to work either as part of a broader Risk Management System or as a standalone tool to communicate expectations and set a compliance culture.
